Cantina Latina
Inspired by the taverns of Latin America, Lesly Bernard (Tillman’s, Permanent Brunch) opens a 100-seat saloon devoted to south-of-the-border drinking and eating. The menu emphasizes Mexican and Cuban cuisines, including tacos and an inventive take on the Cuban sandwich featuring a raisin-and-olive puree. The Ainsworth
Matt Shendell, former owner of the shuttered fondue spot Dip, unveils a 6,000-square-foot sports gastropub featuring 30 televisions, 375 seats and an American-fusion menu from chef Dave Feimster (Spago). Dishes like a whole-wheat pizza topped with mushrooms reflect a global twist, and some of Shendell’s fondues return, such as a brunch version flavored with maple syrup, served with mini waffles, pancakes and French toast. 122 W 26th St between Sixth and Seventh Aves (212-741-0646)
An Nhau
Dung Trinh recently opened the sandwich shop Bánh Mì 172, and now he expands into the adjacent space with this Vietnamese eatery. Traditional dishes include pho and pork belly braised in coconut milk. Los Feliz
Mexico, past and present, is the theme at this café and tequila bar from Rob Shamlian (Spitzer’s Corner). The former Suba locale’s descending levels have been redesigned with hand-plastered walls and pink cobblestone floors, a fitting setting for Mexican bites like tacos and ceviches from chef Julieta Ballesteros (Crema). 109 Ludlow St between Delancey and Rivington Sts (212-228-8383)
Saltie
Former Marlow & Sons chef Caroline Fidanza opens this tiny shop with Rebecca Collerton (Diner) and Elizabeth Schula (Il Buco). The seasonal offerings will emphasize recipes from England, Norway and Italy—reflecting the owners’ heritage—and include items like sandwiches, ice cream and morning pastries (some baked from less common grains like buckwheat and spelt). 378 Metropolitan Ave between Havemeyer and Roebling Sts, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-387-4777)
Stumptown Coffee Roasters
With its Red Hook roastery up and running, Portland, Oregon’s artisan coffee company opens its first café in New York. Choose from espresso-based drinks as well as French-press and cold brew coffees.
