Whether you’re looking for flavor choices that are outré or exhaustive, these three cupcake purveyors will make your taste buds pop.
Robicelli’s Gourmet Market
Husband-and-wife team Allison and Matt Robicelli add new flavors to their expansive roster every two weeks. Among their creative confections: a vanilla waffle cake topped with maple-syrup-dipped buttermilk fried chicken, and the Harry Potter–inspired Butterbeer, flavored with butterscotch and sprinkled with edible gold dust. Available at Blue Apron Foods, Flying Saucer Cafe and Hom (917-509-6048, robicellis.com). Average cupcake: $2.50.
Butch Bakery
This delivery company is stripping the cupcake of its frilly image by reinventing it for men, offering 12 booze-soaked baked goods (imagine, an edible mojito or Sidecar!). Each treat is topped with a chocolate disk decorated in masculine patterns like camouflage or houndstooth. butchbakery.com. Box of 4 to 12 $16–$48 plus $8 delivery fee for orders under $50.
Cupcake Stop
The roving truck’s unflappable baker, Heather Warren, churns out more flavors than any brick-and-mortar bakery in the city. If you can dream it, she’ll conceive it: Submit your idea on the Cupcake Stop website and she’ll pick one new confection to create every month. How else would she come up with flavors like mango-poppy? 718-702-2825, cupcakestop.com. Average cupcake: $2.25.

Little Cupcake Bake Shop in Bay Ridge is my favorite. Also love Out of the Kitchen, so underrated.
i used robicelli's to cater a huge event at MTV. the cupcakes were not just a hit - they were the buzz of the office for weeks to follow. everyone was so impressed with their adventurous flavors, and i was inundated with requests for menus and more information on this phenomenal husband/wife team and their tremendous talent. love them!!
thanks so much cristina!
Hey Raymund, the artist who did that cupcake word cloud illustration is Kurt McRobert (http://www.kurtmcrobert.com/). I'm sure he would sell a poster of it to you.
does anyone know where i can get a poster/hi-res image of that cupcake flavor word cloud? my girlfriend would love that!
Ivy Bakery has the best cookies 'n' cream cupcakes anywhere. She also has a great lighter take on red velvet. Well worth the trip into Brooklyn!
This list isn't about the "best" cupcakes. These are three places that offer more unique flavors than others, as noted above.
I definitely disagree, CupcakeStop has the city's finest cupcakes hands down
I agree with the first comment. The three places listed have the worst cupcakes in the city. I recommend Dessert Club/Chikalicious for a good cupcake.
the three places above actually suck and are probably the worst the city has to offer..robicellis being the worst of them all...
