Despite the title of its latest album, this Seattle psych-noise quartet doesn’t really put much stock in chaos. Kinski’s lengthy guitar jams are meticulously designed meditations on riff and groove in which each element contributes to an overall feeling of forward motion; few rock bands muster techno’s impassive determination as confidently as this one. Down Below It’s Chaos features more singing from frontman Chris Martin than did the last few Kinski records, which draws out the group’s similarities to Sonic Youth. But these tunes are still based around notions of texture and thrust—more experimental, less jet set.
