Blow, the New York Blow Dry Bar
This aptly named flagship salon opened in February 2005 specializing in, you guessed it, blowouts. The price for a shampoo and blowout styling starts at just $40 and goes up slightly based on length and texture. To lock in the sleekness, they offer flat-iron services starting at $10. And for those too busy to make it to the salon, Blow will come to your home, hotel or office to serve up their signature menu item, starting at just $125. They also do cuts, color, manicures and pedicures, waxing and makeup application. 342 W 14th St between Eighth and Ninth Aves (212-989-6282, blowstylingsalon.com)
Butterfly Studio
Owner Kattia Solano, a veteran of Frédéric Fekkai and John Barrett, loads her staff roster with stylists who know how to work with natural texture. While they specialize in cutting long, thick layers and applying rejuvenating Kérastase treatments, one of their most popular services is the blowout (starts at $65). It’s in such demand, in fact, that the salon offers frequent-visitor packages consisting of a series of seven blowouts, ranging from $330 to $510. To help you acquire that razor-straight look at home, they offer regular after-hours how-to workshops. 149 Fifth Ave at 21st St, second floor (212-253-2100, butterflystudiosalon.com)
Chez Rene
This salon offers one of the cheapest blowouts we found—and yet, the results could rival those of a $100 blowout. They’re currently touting a walk-in special (as in, no appointment necessary) for just $28. 330 E 65th St between First and Second Aves (212-879-4247)
Warren-Tricomi Salon
While Edward Tricomi is affectionately called “Edward Scissorhands” because of his crazy-fast cutting method, which he does on dry hair for a funky, layered look, Joel Warren is known for his quick but amazing color applications. You can’t go wrong with either service, but their blowouts are our suggested service. Patrons have said that the salon’s blowouts, which range in price from $71 to $101, have lasted up to five days. Somtimes, though not offered regularly, the stylists offer special one-on-one blow-dry lessons (call for details). 1 W 58th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves (212-262-8899, warrentricomi.com)
