Where do you get your hair cut?
It’s so funny you ask! I just got my hair cut two days ago and it was at this place I always wanted to try when growing up in Queens: Fringe (248 Broome St at Ludlow St; 212-674-8383, fringeny.com). I’d always seen it advertised in Bust magazine, but it was too expensive. Someone gave me a gift certificate, so I finally went. Amy Schiappa did it; she’s the owner and it cost around $100. It was amazing: The salon was beautiful, and it’s right next door to BabyCakes NYC (248 Broome St at Ludlow St; 212-677-5047, babycakesnyc.com).
Did you ask for a specific style?
When I went in, I already had a rattail, coupled with a bowl-cut kind of thing. But I went in with this idea and told her I wanted an extreme contrast in lengths.
Do you color your hair?
I actually just stopped dyeing it. I started going gray in the seventh grade—both of my parents went gray in their twenties.
Do you ever cut your own hair?
Oh, all the time. I cut the top every few months to take out the volume.
Do you have any favorite products?
I like the Aveda pomade that comes in a blue jar. It’s good for volume. Also: Avalon lavender organic shampoo; you can get that at Whole Foods.

how bout some real new yorkers? please? go to the bronx and photograph some people. stop being scared
BTW, the pics get REALLY horrible starting from slide #69!!! Stop at 1-68. They are fine.
Okay, so great job on the hair. It USED to suck but the updated hair styles are much, much better and en vogue. Props to the new writer/reporter/photographers!
umm these hair styles suck... can we please be a little less hipster and a little more original tony?
Wow...all I have to say is wth? A few of the hairstyles are good but majority of these really suck. I can't say I can completely agree with "A" but you really should have expanded to more areas. This is pretty sad if this is supposed to be a representation of NYC.
Are you insane? This is the best you can come up with in NYC?? Dirty Hair, basic cuts, mullets? ewww. Of course must of those were in Union Square where all the people think are individuals when in fact they are all drones. All trying to be cool, when you really are not. Time Out I expected more, I love your stuff but this was no good. there were maybe two or three cool cuts but really??
I love Marisa's extentions....so natural.

I also go to Topher at Arrojo - he is fantastic! Got my haircut by him for my elopement and I looked wonderful! Topher is willing to work with your initial idea, making a cut that fits just perfectly, yet he doesn't try to push you into anything. Go glad he is finally getting the props that he deserves!
I go to Topher for all my cuts. No matter what I am envisioning in my mind, Topher manages to bring it to life and then some. I get compliments on his cuts all the time. Plus, he is possibly the sweetest guy you'll ever meet. I recommend him to everyone i know!
