What it is
Pablo Picasso may have never been called an asshole (according to Jonathan Richman, at least), but the same can’t be said for Mark Kostabi. The former enfant terrible of the ’80s East Village art scene is called names worse than that in Michael Sladek’s compelling profile, which charts the painter-cum-unabashed-capitalist’s Reagan-era rise and eventual fall.
Why we’re psyched
The filmmaker gives his narcissistic, needy subject more than enough rope to hang himself, though who is using whom here is never clear.
