A is for Asia Argento
Though 2007 was technically the annum of Argento for those who haunt the festival circuit, 2008 the year that her bountiful crop hit New York theaters. Filmgoers got the chance to our lady of the angel tattoo play a murderous femme fatale (and poster girl for onanism) in Boarding Gate, a 19th-century Spaniard who won’t take no for an answer in The Last Mistress and a beleaguered archaeologist trying to prevent the apocalypse in her dad Dario Argento’s horror flick The Mother of Tears. (Memo to local distributors: Will somebody please pick up Abel Ferrara’s Go-Go Tales, in which Asia plants a smooch on a rottweiler? Pretty please?)
