What a racket!
Some neighborhoods may be a bit more desperate for a little peace and quiet than others. The New York Post reported in May on the five neighborhoods in which the most noise citations have been issued in the four years since the NYPD’s Homeland Security–esque-sounding Operation Silent Night was initiated. Hamilton Heights led the pack with more than 56,000 citations, followed closely by the farther-north Inwood, with more than 41,000. The noisemakers of Washington Heights finished third with slightly fewer, but still in the neighborhood (haw!) of 41,000.
