Joe's Pub at the Public Theater
Just because you work late doesn’t mean you should have to squeeze into the venue as the opening band is finishing. One of many reasons we love Joe’s Pub is for the fact that it empties the room and starts from scratch with acts (like French band 49 Swimming Pools on Friday 30) as late as 11:59pm. 425 Lafayette St between Astor Pl and E 4th St (212-539-8778,joespub.com)
(Le) Poisson Rouge
This subterranean art space welcomes a diverse rotation of musicians, many of which grace you with their music post-9pm (check out pianist Inna Faliks’s 10pm performance on Mon 2). 158 Bleecker St at Thompson St (212-505-3474, lepoissonrouge.com)
The Stone
On weekdays and weekends alike, John Zorn’s avant-garde hang has a dependable 10pm slot (like Lisle Ellis on bass Saturday 31). Just prepare your butt for plastic chairs. Ave C at 2nd St (thestonenyc.com)—Kate Lowenstein and Michael Ventura
