To be treated like a king at Les HallesWisher Kevin McHugh, 21; student, Anthony Bourdain groupie, advocate of better college-kid treatment at high-end celeb eateries
Says Kevin: We got to Les Halles and our waiter, Tim Siemers (far left), immediately recognized us. He showed us to our seats, and introduced us to some regulars who apparently only sit there, but they kind of got pushed aside so we could be at that table that night. I’d been there twice before and both times, because I’m just a college kid, I’d always get more or less ignored. But this night, the waitstaff was really on top of everything. Tim brought glasses of wine for me and my girlfriend, Kerry, which was spot-on for what I wanted, incidentally. I was torn between two entrées: the steak tartare and the planche de grillades, which is a huge honkin’ pile of meat. Tim offered, “Well, I can put in a half order and you can do the steak tartare as an appetizer.” That was really accommodating of him. Then when he brought the food, he said, “I’ve got a surprise for you. One of my friends—I’m going to put you on the phone with him.” And I thought, Oh my God, could it be Anthony Bourdain? I was really giddy and nervous. [Laughs] Then he came back with his cell phone and I got to talk to Anthony Bourdain for, like, five minutes! It was awesome. He asked what I ordered, and I told him, “I think I’m about to go into a meat coma.” And he said, “Well, if you’re going to go into a coma, that’s probably the best way to go.” Of course, he’s right.
“Hey, Kevin. How do you like the restaurant and the food? You ordered the mixed-grill plate? That’s one of my favorites. Tell Tim to give you a glass of calvados on me.”

…install good ol’ fashioned playground slides in place of stairs at subway stations with particularly long, straight descents—like the A at 181st Street and the 1 at 125th Street.

Aww, look at all the comments Tyler left about himself. Time Out Fan says, "This guy looks like a star....give us more!" JungleCat proclaims, "Kudos to the cover model for reeling me in!" Limousine adds, "This is by far the hottest person you've ever had on the cover." Of course! The city that never sleeps, honestly hasn't slept this week, wishing and wanting more to know more about Captain Mismatch. In all fairness, darkhairedgirl's comment was real, as Tyler's mom does indeed have dark locks.
I want to thank Kate Lowenstein of TIMEOUTNY magazine for granting my daughter her wish for me to have a Manhattan Gallery showing of my work. With the cooperation of the Heskin Contemporary gallery it truly was a magical evening. My photographs never looked better than in that space. Everyone who I spoke with that evening enjoyed the show. I would seriously consider doing another show one day. Thanks again!!

I think the guy who went to Les Halles is the HOTTEST thing in this magazine!!! I think you should have had HIM on the cover. OR you should make him a weekly/monthly feature--who wouldn't want to know which restaurants are college-kid-friendly and which are not???? I know I would!!!

This is by far one of my favorite things TONY has done. The cover is initially what drew me to the newsstand and i was so exicted to read about everyday NYers having their dreams come true. I want to pay it foward and spread the news about TONY throughout NY. Kudos to the cover model for reeling me in!
This is by far the hottest person you've ever had on the cover...you should do a bigger piece about him, I'm sure lots of other people in the city would be interested in hearing about where you found him and what he's all about! Great idea.
