It’s a partial homecoming for Animal Collective, as its core members, Avey Tare and Panda Bear, decamped for European climes a couple of years back. Family life must agree with them both, as the band’s melodies have become warmer, weirder and genuinely ecstatic. The Collective’s rise should only continue with its debut for the hit-making Domino label in September. This perfect summer kickoff starts with the similarly joyous quirkiness of Danielson.—Mike Wolf

Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora’s shows are little marvels of precision and economy. If you close your eyes while she’s onstage and let your imagination wander, the reward is a brief trip to a windswept island off the coast of Africa. We’re not sure if pairing her with kitschy L.A. duo the Bird and the Bee is inspired or just playful, but the group’s easy-to-like jazz-pop should go over well with Evora’s fans.—K. Leander Williams
