Alan and Richard Bishop: The Brothers Unconnected

Landmark achievement: The Bishop brothers were two thirds of Sun City Girls, an underground group of such shocking virtuosity that for more than a quarter century, they were unmatched when it came to unbound exploration of genres, cultures and musical possibilities. From cowboy bachelor-pad music to martian spy-theme exotica and sometimes just rock, there’s little that Sun City Girls couldn’t—and didn’t—do. The band came to an end last winter with the untimely passing of Charles Gocher, the supernatural force behind the drum kit.

Why see them now: As a celebration of Gocher—not to mention the band’s voluminous catalog—the Bishops are touring as an acoustic duo, as well as showing a collection of their late comrade’s potently affecting video experiments. “We aren’t going to be mourning and weeping,” asserts Alan Bishop. “You’ll still get the wit, charm and overall artillery the two of us can provide.”
