    Hanukkah guide

    Eight great nights of entertainment

On Hanukkah or after, celebrate some of the most outstanding Jewish performers in New York City.

    December 5
Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad, at the Zipper Theater: The Goddess Perlman hosts an evening of bawdy entertainment starring Ophira Eisenberg, Poppi Kramer, Jessica Wood, Vanessa Hidary, Sister Schmaltz and a klezmer house band.

    December 6
Festival of Light, at Warsaw: Matisyahu, who mixes reggae and Orthodox roots, brings his second annual Festival of Light to Warsaw.

    December 7
Jessica Kirson, at Gotham Comedy Club: The comedian (The J.A.P. Show) headlines with her unpredictable shtick.

    December 8
The Eight, at Webster Hall: Part of a series of simultaneous concerts all over the US and the world, this show stars the Budos Band, hip-hop combo Hadag Nachash and DJ crew Soulico.

    December 11
Sephardic Music Festival, at Knitting Factory: The Sephardic tradition is honored—and sometimes dusted off—by Pshotei Haaam, Pharaoh's Daughter, DJ Handler and Y-Love.

    December 12
A Tribute to Grace Paley, at the 92nd St Y: Allan Gurganus, Amy Hempel, A.M. Homes, Galway Kinnell, Naomi Replansky, Lynne Sharon Schwartz, Gerald Stern and Jean Valentine honor the late short-fiction master.

    December 14
The Band's Visit, at various theaters: In this film, an Egyptian brass band gets stranded in Israel. Fear not, Eran Kolirin’s wry film always surprises.

    December 23
Heeb Storytelling, at Joe’s Pub: Heeb magazine sponsors an evening of seven-minute stories with Jenny Slate and Gabe Liedman (At Night with Gabe and Jenny), Esther Ku (Caroline's), David J. Rosen (MTV), Jordon Carlos (Colbert Report) and more.
