Eat Out Awards 2009: Readers’ choice
Best new ice cream: Blue Marble
OTHER NOMINEES: Momofuku Milk Bar, Sweet Melissa Crémerie, Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream
Like an ice-cream-scooping David in the face of Momofuku Bakery & Milk Bar’s Goliath, this eco-conscious Brooklyn creamery took the win in a tight race. Pristine ingredients (fair-trade chocolate, grass-fed organic milk) drew the votes for Jennifer Dundas and Alexis Miesen’s ethical operation. The pair plans to open a shop in Rwanda next year—we’ve no doubt you’d follow them there, too. Congratulations Alexis!!! Your strawberry ice cream is the best I have had and I also loved the yoghurt smoothie! Blue Marble was a great escape from last July's heat wave when we were in Brooklyn.
