I’d Rather We Got Casinos
by Larry Wilmore (Hyperion, $24; on sale now)
The Daily Show’s “Senior Black Correspondent” continues to the blur the line between himself and his character in this collection of essays subtitled And Other Black Thoughts. In the introduction, a faux editor claims to have culled the pieces—letters to the NAACP, a radio interview with “the Man”—from newspaper clippings and transcriptions of the author’s radio and TV appearances. Even if that’s not true, the ideas are all Wilmore’s. Black weathermen really do make him happy. Except when they make him sad. It’s hard to explain. Just like racism.
Wilmore talks and signs copies of I’d Rather We Got Casinos at Borders Books Columbus Circle Feb 12 at 7pm.
