Not many mix-CDs can claim to feature a poet who spoke at a presidential inauguration, but not many mix-CDs come from the fertile minds of DJ/rupture and Matt Shadetek. The poet in question is Elizabeth Alexander; her inclusion is just one of the many surprises on this killer collection. The tunes, many from the mixmasters themselves, veer from Jamaican-tinged toughness (Jahdan Blakkamoore’s “For the Souls”) and deep excursions into glitch and dubstep to moments of transcendent beauty (the duo’s version of Telepathe’s “In Your Line”). The mind-blowing part is the ease with which the pair mold these elements into a heart-stoppingly gorgeous whole.—Bruce Tantum
