And now for something completely different, at least as far as TONY’s Homespun sessions go. For one thing, this isn’t a DJ mix, but instead a live set, recorded by Ezekiel Honig— founder of the Anticipate and Microcosm labels— at this past springs Mutek festival in Montreal. Second, this isn’t dance music at all, unless you have a really abstract view of dancing. This set is pure ambience (with only a ghostly hint of rhythm) composed of electronic drones, hums, gurgles and pulsations. And in its soft, drifting way, it’s beautiful— though it does require a bit more patience than our usual selections. Honig will be performing live at the Dumbo Art Under the Bridge festival’s video dumbo affair (at 81 Front Street Gallery on Saturday 26), with SuperDraw artist Joshue Ott providing the visuals. Check out videodumbo.org for more info; in the meantime, enjoy this stunning set.
