Jason “DJ Spun” Drummond may be a West Coast boy at heart (his formative years were spent rabble-rousing in the Bay Area), but nowadays he’s a near-essential cog in the machinery of Gotham nightlife. Part of his standing is due to the influence of Rong Music, the label Drummond and partner Ben Cook started in 2003, which helped to usher in the era of left-field house and disco and which still holds sway in NYC; another chunk comes from his role as one of the musical directors of P.S.1’s massive Warm Up wingdings. But mostly, it’s because the dude is a freaking good DJ, as this mix, recorded at last year’s Warm Up season closer, attests. He’ll be back on the decks at this year’s grand finale, as will the duo TBD (Lee Douglas and Justin Vandervolgen). And the party also features a live set from new Rong signee (!) Coati Mundi, so our recommendation is to get there early, drink lots of beer and make a fab day of it.
