Techno is far from indigenous here in NYC—it’s a genre that belongs to Detroit and Berlin. Still, the machine-tooled sound has made great inroads locally as of late, in part due to a bevy of perhaps-illicit loft and warehouse parties dotted around the outer boroughs. But there are plenty of legal techno hoedowns as well, and here are our favorites of the bunch.
- The Bunker
In the early years of this decade, the Bunker was one of the only spots in the city to regularly feature the techno coming out of Detroit and Germany. Now, it’s stronger than ever, regularly hosting some of the world’s best producers and DJs. Public Assembly, 70 North 6th St between Kent and Wythe Aves, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-782-5188)
