Too sweet for some technophiles and too techy for the dream-poppers, Gui Boratto’s latest will send shivers down the spines of those electronic-music fans who couldn’t care less about categorization. (There are a few of you out there, right?) The producer’s previous work similarly injected heart-stirring humanity into machine music’s circuitry, but here he amps the melodicism even further: “Azurra,” for instance, comes off as a rainy-day version of New Order’s “The Perfect Kiss.” Boratto hasn’t forgotten the dance floor—there’s still some grit and grind here—but it’s in his quieter moments that Boratto shines the brightest.—BT
