    Album review

    Sally Shapiro

Remix Romance Vols. 1 and 2 (Paper Bag Records)

As with Swedish singer Sally Shapiro’s 2007 electropop opus Disco Romance, these two remix collections should come with some kind of warning regarding a potential sugar overdose. But it’s certainly a delicious glut of glucose, with producers like space-disco guru Lindstrøm, Italodisco god Alexander Robotnik and DFA’s Juan MacLean all knowing not to screw with Shapiro’s breathy, Strawberry Switchblade–esque coos to any large degree. Among the many standouts: Holy Fuck’s gorgeous dream-pop version of “Find My Soul” and the SSL take on “I Know,” which sounds more like classic Pet Shop Boys than the boys themselves.
