Sweet Afton
“Flow gently, sweet Afton!” begins a famous poem by Scottish bard Robert Burns, and at this bar from the owners of Bua and Wilfie & Nell, beers from 12 taps (including one cask) will do just that. (Well, maybe not gently.) If a cocktail is more to your liking, the pickle martini, made with McClure’s brine, or a vodka-based sweet tea should refresh. Bar fare includes homemade Irish sausage rolls and a burger built from LaFrieda meat. 30-09 34th St at 30th Ave, Astoria, Queens (718-777-2570)
The Double Windsor
While the name suggests formal attire, there’s no dress code at this neighborhood pub from the owners of Cake Shop. Classic cocktails from the 20-seat horseshoe bar will include the dark and stormy and the sazerac, though craft beers and cask ales are the real focus, with a rotating selection dispensed from 14 taps. Something that does get dressed up: the pub-grub menu from chef-partner Paul Cacici (Egg, Union Square Cafe), which includes a duck-confit sandwich with fig jam and arugula, and his take on fish-and-chips. 210 Prospect Park West at 16th St, Park Slope, Brooklyn (347-725-3479)
The Garden
The Four Seasons Hotel’s lobby restaurant, once known as 57, reopens as a wine bar, named for the 20-foot acacia trees that now grace the Art Deco space. Former Le Bernardin sommelier Lacey Rozinsky offers the entire international wine list by the glass (as long as at least two servings are ordered for each selection), though some bottles from the 200-strong collection won’t be available until late September. Wine-friendly foods range from small plates, like fried zucchini blossoms, to familiar entrées such as steak frites. The Four Seasons Hotel, 57 E 57th St between Madison and Park Aves (212-350-6658)

JZ, are you on crack? Sweet Afton rocks. You clearly didn't try the burger, which is delicious. Or the pickle back shots, which are genius! Or the scotch selection, which is a true delight.
Sweet Afton: a lot of work cut out for them. All the specialty drinks were unappetizing and over-priced. The music was too loud to hear a conversation 3-ft away. Like the look and feel, but wasn't a pleasant enough experience to stay for a 2nd round or try the food.
They're still a couple of weeks away from opening. Unfortunately.
Competition for Farells- nah! although they said they will have caske ales!
