February 22–28, 2008
Guggenheim Museum, 1071 Fifth Ave
Enter viewers, exit Krens
On February 22, the show opens to the public (or those members of the public who didn’t sneak in to watch it go up). Coincidentally, Thomas Krens steps down as director of the Guggenheim Foundation days later, on February 28 (effective this fall). At that point, he will move over to coordinate the most ambitious of the international projects for which he and the museum have become known, a Guggenheim branch in Abu Dhabi and a cultural district around it. He leaves Munroe in control of a growing Asian art program, with a forthcoming exhibit, “American Art in the East,” scheduled for February 2009.
