Krens announces Munroe’s appointment as senior curator of Asian art
After assembling the acclaimed “Japanese Art After 1945: Scream Against the Sky” (which had appeared at the Guggenheim and other noted museums), Alexandra Munroe joined the Japan Society and made a name for herself as its gallery director. Her subsequent appointment as the Guggenheim’s first curator of Asian art—and the first curator at any major museum to oversee contemporary Asian work—becomes, in Krens’s words, “the catalyst” for Cai’s show. Munroe concurs, saying, “I kept advocating its importance; I really pushed it forward.”
